info
Envision yourself on a long, hard journey. The beginning of the trip is exciting, but then you come across unexpected bumps. You have no map and no information as to how to progress. This is what childbirth is like without education or information.
In the childbirth classes, you and your coach will start by learning about what is going to happen to your body in the last months of pregnancy, during labor and delivery, and postpartum. The stages of labor are explained along with medical interventions and routines used in the hospital. The use of relaxation and breathing techniques along with massage and visualization are taught in the classes. Options are discussed and dialogue with your doctor/midwife is encouraged to optimize your experience. As part of pain management, we review the pros and cons of epidurals and other medications. Walking, taking showers, using a birthing ball, sitting in a jacuzzi tub, changing positions, and working with your body is emphasized in class. These are all part of the education of birthing a baby.
The classes are held at the Miller School, through Brighton Community Education

A new class starts about every 4 weeks, 1 night per week from 7 to 9pm.
